Methods of Philosophizing

Truth

"It is through knowing that we are able to determine what is true".

Knowledge

  • clear awareness & understanding of something.
  • comprised of ideas and beliefs that we know to be true.
  • the product of questions that allow for clear answers that are provided by Facts.
  • it is typically based on Facts, however not all facts qualify as knowledge. Knowledge requires additional criteria, such as justification and truth.
  • involves having justified/logical reasons or evidence for believing something to be true.
  • This is under Epistemology.

Facts

  • propositions or statements observed to be true.
  • statements not evidently/immediately known to be true.
  • a statement is a claim.
  • further examination is required to establish truth or false.
  • validation or verification is required in order for a fact to be true.
  • This is under Metaphysics.

Philosophizing

  • process of thinking or expressing oneself in a philosophical manner.
    • considers or discusses any from a philosophical standpoint.
    • implies the philosopher is partially in possesstion of truth.

Logic and Critical Thinking

  • the analysis and construction of arguments.
  • it serves as the path to freedom from half-truths and deception.
  • Truth is based on reasoning and critical thinking.
