Cytokinesis

Table of Contents

Definition

  • "_Cell Motion_"
  • The second main stage of the mitotic phase during which the physical separation of the cytoplasmic components into two daughter cells.
  • Cytokinesis works differently for plant cells which have cell walls.
  • An Actomyosin contractile ring is formed after Telophase in the middle of the spindle midzone.
    • This contractile ring creates a fissure or "crack" called cleavage furrow.

Steps

Initiation

Contraction

  • as the contractile ring contracts, there is a formation of Intercellular Bridge

Membrane Insertion

  • fusion of intracellular vesicles

Completion

  • also called abscission is the final cleaving of the two daughter cells.

Syncytium

  • Cell with multiple nuclei
  • Cells that dont undergo cytokinesis but still do nuclear division.
