Cytokinesis
Table of Contents
Definition
- "_Cell Motion_"
- The second main stage of the mitotic phase during which the physical separation of the cytoplasmic components into two daughter cells.
- Cytokinesis works differently for plant cells which have cell walls.
- An Actomyosin contractile ring is formed after Telophase in the middle of the
spindle midzone.
- This contractile ring creates a fissure or "crack" called cleavage furrow.
Steps
Initiation
- starts at Anaphase
Contraction
- as the contractile ring contracts, there is a formation of Intercellular Bridge
Membrane Insertion
- fusion of intracellular vesicles
Completion
- also called abscission is the final cleaving of the two daughter cells.
Syncytium
- Cell with multiple nuclei
- Cells that dont undergo cytokinesis but still do nuclear division.
