Parenchyma

  • loosely packed thin walled cells having more intercellular spaces.
  • have large air cavities which help the plant to float on water
  • roots and stem store water and minerals.

Chlorenchyma

Collenchyma

  • less intercellular spaces and thicker at the corners
  • give flexibility and allows easy bending of different parts like stem, leaf etc.
  • give mechanical support to the plant.

  • Support in leaves and stems

Sclerenchyma

  • consists of long, narrow, dead thick walled cells
  • Cell walls contain lignin a chemical substance which act like cement and hardens them.

    • found in wood and bark
  • Sclereid
    • found in nuts and stone fruit
